Chaya Bas

Hachazzan Yakov V’Esther

Claire Kosden-Perskie

by her loving children Micki & Norman Massry
and their beloved children Julie & Jim, Murray & Mallory, Laurie & Ken & their families

Claire was a Holocaust survivor who embodied connection with her loved ones and faith throughout her life.

As the daughter of a renowned chazzan of Prague’s Altneuschul (“Old-New”) Synagogue before World War Two, a love for faith and prayer was instilled in Claire from her youth. Each day, she would recite the Shema, proclaiming faith in the One G-d; and each week, she kindled her Shabbos lights with personal prayers.

In her later years, Claire gathered her daughters Sheryl, Micki, and Ava, and asked, “Who will say Kaddish for me? Who will pray for me?”

“I will,” Micki answered. “I will make sure we pray and say Kaddish.”

Micki shared that despite all the difficulties her mother lived through, she was the most loving mother to her daughters and their children. She spoke the language of connection, praying for them and showering them with praise and unconditional love. She wasn’t bitter or angry because of all she endured.

Inspired by her legacy, we welcome women of all backgrounds to join the GROW Connection Network.
